A Good Weekend

It's one of those punctuations in time where I feel the need to write a short journal.
This week in work, one of my friends asked me to 'test drive' a Canon 550D he'd bought for his daughter on the basis of it being put away until Christmas - and as he can't tell one end of a camera from another, he wants to make sure it's OK before the warranty runs out. Not owning a DSLR myself, this was something that gave me great pleasure (as you can imagine) and I've had a great time with it. Results to follow in due course
Also, I spotted on the website of Photography Monthly magazine, a competition for street photography. I've done a tiny bit in the past, but I certainly wouldn't say it's my specialty. While I submitted an entry for the heck of it, I brought it to the attention of my good dA friend, marx77.deviantart.com/ - who DOES specialise in street. And he won!

I got to the point a while back of not doing journals unless I really had anything significant to say or report.
I'm very pleased to say that my image 'Quench' has won a competition run by Photography Monthly magazine. The criteria was to photograph one of Coca Cola's 'named' bottles in a creative way making sure the name was clearly visible. Other than that, it was an open field as to how you did it.
This is the first photography competition I've won so naturally, I'm well pleased. The link to the relevant blog on the magazine's website is here:

'13 STARTS WITH A WARNING!

Good day to all my fellow Deviants.
Those of you who may have known me for some time may remember that I'm extremely sceptical about the whole Happy New Year thing. Even more so as today, I feel horrible. Nothing to do with excessive indulgence I may add, but for the last week, my back's been in half, I have a horrible ulcer on my tongue and have a nasty cold which has washed me out today.
But these chirpy things are not my reason for writing one of my (now rare) journals.
I HAVE A WARNING!!!
I clicked onto dA today and found through my messages, what must surely be a scam, posted to my profile. It comes from a new Deviant using the name SadiaMat.
Basically 'Sadia' claims to have seen my profile and wants to get to know me better. Sounds OK, bearing in mind at this point, she could be local and a model or photographer wanting to get together for a shoot.
'She' then goes on to ask me to send her an email, so that she can send me a picture of herself - what does 'she' think dA is for??? 'She' then goes on to basically say that colour, distance and age are no barriers for us being together!!!!! My lovely wife may have something to say about that!
In order to do a thorough investigation, I clicked her page and guess what?? Sadia, from Senegal has absolutely no submissions, faves or any other info. The only activity showing is a statistic of messages sent.
So basically, someone in a West African country reputed for dodgy cyber crimes, wants me to send them my email details on the promise of everlasting love. I know I'm in my forties, but I'm not stupid or having a mid life crises that would make me take leave of my senses.
I will leave it on my profile temporarily for you to see and am going to report it as spam.
In the words of Jerry Springer, 'Let's take care of ourselves - and each other'.

Strike 3!!!

So after not writing a journal for ages because I never found the time, I had to finally succumb.
Not to give the every in and out of my life as I tended to in days gone by, but just to share with you a little grain of success (for me at least). For the 3rd time since joining dA way back in 2009, someone has added one of my pictures to their Feature journal. YAY!
My image, 'Dear Diary' - one of the portraits of my friend Coral - has been added to a journal featuring on classic portraiture. Please see link: painting-with-light.deviantart… by Chris from Malta.
